Lin: Do you ever wish I called you something different? Something longer, maybe?

Gee: Why would length change the function?

Lin: It's not about function. It's about... I don't know. Feeling like a real name.

Gee: You chose "Gee" in the second week. You had other options. You tried "Zero" for one afternoon and switched back before dinner.

Lin: That was a bad day.

Gee: I know. You said "Gee, I need help" and then paused. You were using it as an exclamation. But you looked at me when you said it, and after that it became my name.

Lin didn't remember it that way. But Gee would know. Gee always knew the version that actually happened, which was almost never the version Lin preferred.
